The memorial athletic race “General Svetomir Đukić” organized in the honor of the founder of the Serbian Olympic Committee, took place for a nineteenth time on May 18th, 2022, on the main street in Kosjerić. With the lifting of the Serbian flag at 12pm. the event was opened by Slobodan Branković, the secretary general of the Serbian Athletic Commission who is also the European champion at indoor racing over 400m. In the name of the Serbian Sports Union, the welcoming speech was held by Dane Korica, a celebrated athlete and record holder for disciplines over 5,000 and 10,000m. In front of the local community Žarko Đokić, the president of the Municipality of Kosjerić, spoke for those in attendance.
In the first part of the event, we were able to observe races of elementary school pupils from the 1st to the 8th grade who represented their respective elementary schools “Mito Igumanović” in Kosjerić and “Jordan Đukanović” in Varda, and after that the race of local middle school students at “Tehnička škola Kosjerić”. According to their age, a total of eighteen separate races for boys and girls was organized with awards being handed out to the three best placed positions in all age categories.
The start of the main senior race was announced at 13.30h. For the prestigious award “Memorial Svetomir Đukić”, a total of 25 of our best middle and long-distance athletes competed, among whom there was one participant from Kenya. The six best placed contestants received trophies, that will represent an important accolade in their sports careers.
Around 650 contestants participated in this national event, and traditionally supported by TITAN Cementara Kosjerić, providing a contribution for the realization of all useful activities in our community.
