Local cooperation for better air quality

The reconstructed heating plant was officially opened in Kosjerić.

During the previous two years, the local self-government in Kosjerić invested 104 million dinar into the modernization of the town heating plant, for the purpose of transition from fuel oil to gas and expanding the capacity of the plant, with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, public enterprise Srbijagas and TITAN Cementara Kosjerić. This year, TITAN Cementara Kosjerić enabled the connection of the elementary school, high school and the healthcare centre to the town heating plant, through a 30-million-dinar investment, which created an opportunity for shutting down three large boiler rooms in these public institutions. Eliminating these three large sources of local pollution will be of crucial importance for air quality in Kosjerić.

General Manager of TITAN Cementara Kosjerić, Miroslav Gligorijević, confirmed the strategic commitment of the company to investing in the local community: “Everything we do, we do with a single goal – to make the world around us a safe, sustainable and enjoyable place to live. Owing to significant investments in our processes and equipment, the environmental results of TITAN Cementara Kosjerić have been among the results of the best cement plants across the world for years, and now we have the opportunity to help the local community to decrease negative impact of large boiler rooms onto air quality in Kosjerić. Having a responsible attitude towards the environment, we made sure that the air quality in Kosjerić during the summer season is excellent, and this 30 million investment in the town heating plant confirms our partnership with the local community so together we can create conditions for better air quality during the winter season as well.”

“After the investments in 2022 and 2023 and after switching from heavy oil to gas, we managed to shut down three large coal and fuel oil boiler rooms this year, and connect the residential building near the church to the town heating plant. In this way, we eliminate the negative effects of these boiler rooms on the air quality in Kosjerić, and we ensure a pleasant and comfortable environment for the youngest ones – elementary school pupils, and our most vulnerable fellow citizens – users of healthcare centre services and, of course, all employees in these public institutions. We expect that the traditional partnership with TITAN Cementara Kosjerić will enable implementation of other important future projects in the local community. With the support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, which has supported projects in the local community with more than 63 million dinars this year: the reconstruction of Karađorđeva Street, energy rehabilitation of the National Library “Sreten Marić”, reforestation projects in the municipality, energy rehabilitation of family houses and apartments, classroom adaptation in separate departments of the elementary school, Kosjerić will remain the place where we will have a socially responsible, strong industry, and excellent living conditions, along with the development of tourism and agriculture”, said the president of the Municipality of Kosjerić, Žarko Đokić.
